FAQ for Windows users:
I get the following message when I am trying to do a full install: 'Wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume Ldoce_CD1 in to drive D'

If you get this message, select 'Cancel', uninstall the software you have just installed, and then re-install it. If you continue to get this message then try to clean the shiny side of disk 2 using a soft cloth between installations.

An error message appears when I install.
If you are using a computer on a network, you must be logged on as Administrator to install the CD. You must run the CD under the Administrator log-on once, and then you can use it under your own log-on name.

Do I need to have the CD in the CD drive for the programme to work? If so, which one?
The answer depends on what you want the CD to do and which installation you have used. If you have performed a minimal install, you must keep CD 1 in the CD drive at all times while using the program. If you want to hear the headword pronunciations you must either:
a.) have installed using the ‘Full' installation. This means that all the headword pronunciations have been copied onto your computer. You will no longer need either disc.
b.) have installed using the ‘Recommended' installation. All headword pronunciations have been copied onto your computer. If you want to also hear sentences examples pronounced in ‘recommended' installation, you must have CD 2 in the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
c.) If you have installed using the 'Medium' or 'Minimal' installation, you will need to keep CD 1 in the CD-ROM drive of your computer.

FAQ for Mac and Linux users:

The audio doesn't work on MAC OSX with QuickTime 7 or later.
The dictionary has a problem with Quicktime 7 or above and needs to be patched to make the sound work. Follow these instructions and it should start working again:

Longman Dictionary Of Contemporary

1 - Download this file - http://www.pearsonlongman.com/dictionaries/support-downloads/ldoce4v2_patch.sit

Longman Dictionary Of Contemporary English 5th Edition

English

2 - Extract the contents to a directory on the desktop

3 - Control + click on the ldoce4v2 icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. Navigate to inside 'MacOS' folder.

4 - Drag each file (NOT FOLDERS - this will break it) from the patch directory to its place in the MacOS folder, for example 'libskcore.dylib' goes into the 'MacOS folder', and the files inside 'ldoce4v2 patchchrome' have to be dragged into the 'MacOSchrome' folder.

5 - Delete 'compreg.dat' and 'xpti.dat' from the 'MacOSComponenets' directory. Don't worry if these files are not there, this is ok.

6 - Close the window and run the program as normal. If it fails to load then you have not copied the files over correctly, delete the whole program and try again.

Do I need to have the CD in the CD drive for the program to work?
If you want to hear the headword pronunciations, you do not need either disk in the drive. Mac and Linux users only have one choice of installation-the 'Recommended' installation. This means that all headword pronunciations have been copied to your computer and can play without CD 1 or 2 in the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
If you want to hear the pronunciations of the example sentences you must have CD 2 in the CD-ROM drive of your computer.

The pop up mode doesn't work
Mac and Linux users must type (or copy and paste) words or phrases into the Web/email Pop Up dictionary. There are no keyboard shortcuts.
